Here at Direct Barristers Ltd we tend to find that due to the relatively new availability of direct access to a Barrister most people are unaware of the existence of this service.
This in turn means that most people are not aware of the many advantages of choosing this route.

The traditional route for most people when finding themselves in need of legal advice and assistance is to go to a Solicitors office on the High Street and seek their advice or make use of a Solicitor that you have used in the past or has been used by someone you know.

If you are a company and do not have an in house legal team it may be that you have a long standing relationship with a Solicitor and they service all of your needs to a high standard and no doubt at a significant cost.

Until recently you were simply not allowed to instruct a Barrister directly to assist you and you were forced to go to a Solicitor in order to do this.

Well not anymore!

We are not criticising Solicitors in any way and there may be occasions where a Solicitor is essential in the process, we are simply saying that there are many times when they are not essential and by taking the Direct Access route you could make significant savings on fees for the same or a better level of service.

These are lawyers who following completion of their studies will have completed a training contract and qualified as a Solicitor. They generally have a broad knowledge of all aspect of the law however will normally specialise in a specific area such as crime; commercial, family or conveyancing.

A Solicitor can represent you in the Magistrates Court, the County Court and at Tribunals and some have further qualified to represent you in the Crown Court or Higher Courts.
In general terms if you have an issue that requires specialist legal knowledge the Solicitor would instruct a Barrister on your behalf whilst looking after the conduct of your case.

Barristers are usually associated with the Crown Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, recognised in and around the Courts as they wear a wig and gown.
